No doubt about it. Trump’s health plan will cut care for seniors

We’ve seen an enormous shift towards hospitals and nursing homes. The huge rise of patients, and more seniors, across the US have put a huge strain on the country’s hospital and nursing care systems.

HSRN’s survey shows the number of employees who work as home health aides and similar caregivers — often working alongside Medicare patients — is on the decline. A disturbing two thirds of respondents said they are no longer in the business.

For everyone else in the labor force, it’s a dangerous time too. The Labor Department says the number of workers who have so-called “negative job security” — because of the wide range of positions they could lose — has risen over the past year.

A lot of that has to do with the economic recovery.

By the time people have trained up, and can find jobs, often there aren’t a lot of them. And some have suggested automation could make life even tougher.
