Leaders of the world’s top economies have agreed to work together to limit the rise in global temperatures to below 1.5 degrees.

The pledge by US President Donald Trump’s administration was one of the few contradictions in a G20 communique.

The prime minister of France and German Chancellor Angela Merkel also told the summit they should ensure that the Paris agreement was implemented.

The Paris Agreement sets out ambitious goals to help the world adapt to climate change.

It acknowledges that economic growth will have to be delivered with reduced emissions and more energy.

The countries agree to work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote energy efficiency and sustainable technology.

The leaders hope it will help them meet the 1.5 degrees Celsius goal and reflect on the ways in which the Paris Agreement is being implemented.
