Car Hits Man, Driver Steers Away

A man in his 60s died Thursday after a car hit him and then drove away. The Scarborough motorist struck the man while he was crossing the street on McCowan Road at 8:30 a.m., Toronto police said. The man’s body was strewn on the roadway. A witness told media that the driver then sped away, saying: “‘I’m getting out of here. I’m not going to have my car messed up.’ ”

As of Wednesday afternoon, police had not found the car and were asking anyone with information to call 416-808-7400. Homicide investigators spoke to three witnesses who said they saw a vehicle heading west near Highway 401 when they came upon the pedestrian, CTV reported. Investigators have said that the man in his 60s appears to have been hit by the car in the crossing lane.
